On the afternoon of April 17, 2019, the Yantian District Foreign Teacher Training organized by CIPTC was successfully held in Shenzhen Foreign Language School (High School Campus).
Sam, a foreign teacher from Tiandong Primary School, first introduced the theme of this training: ‘Independent Practice: Stimulating Cultural Reflections and Comparisons’, which explores how to inspire students to reflect and contrast different cultures in the independent practice. Sam gave an overview of independent practice and its importance in the ESL classroom. He reminded all foreign teachers to focus on how the teacher implement culture into independent practice in the next open class.

After that, Soma successfully demonstrated a wonderful open class with the theme "Slang". In the class, Soma first listed a number of different proverbs that let students to think and answer the meaning of each proverb. Some then integrated cultural elements into the next independent practice, asking students to identify Chinese proverbs and South African proverbs. After the discussion, each group explained the characteristics of these two countries' proverbs and selected their favorite proverbs to demonstrate. The teaching objective of the whole class is clear, the classroom management is good, and the whole room burst into laughter. Students-Teacher relationship is respectful and dynamic.

After the open class, all foreign teachers discussed and actively expressed their views on Soma's teaching. Then Hans, the mentor supervisor in Yantian district of CIPTC, made comments on this open class and invited Danny, a foreign teacher from Yantian Foreign Language Primary School, to share the method of how to implement culture into independent practice. All foreign teachers discussed in pairs and designed different independent practice activities integrated with cultural elements. A total of 14 theme activities such as costumes, dances and musical instruments were designed and learned from each other.

At the end of the training, Hans gave a wonderful summary of this training. The foreign teachers in the meeting fully affirmed the significance of this training and looked forward to the new harvest of the next training.
